...reading the world

Reading the world... to read ourselves

Releasing the power of stories to learn about others and ourselves.

Bringing the joy of reading to everyone.

This project includes day courses, story workshops for children at KS1 and KS2, and staff twilights that enable teachers to explore the use and power of picture books for understanding more about the world and ourselves. Run by two of our most experienced literacy practitioners, Reading the world is designed to improve the teaching of reading, enhance global awareness, address community cohesion and promote learning about identity. This enjoyable and engaging approach to reading is grounded in current theory and recommendations from Ofsted, and develops core literacy skills as well as introducing teachers and learners to innovative activities and wonderful books!

Story workshops in your school

Our story workshops use vivid and thought-provoking picture books to promote discussion and learning around a range of issues as well as providing an enriching reading experience to supplement the existing teaching of reading in school. Children are given opportunities to respond and talk about their ideas and opinions, identify their reading preferences, and to use drama, philosophy, art and creative writing to develop their thinking. Our carefully chosen resources also ensure that they are exposed to a wonderful range of picture books and fiction from around the world.

Time and time again these sessions have motivated, energised and reinvigorated children's attitudes to reading, and provided inspiration for teachers too!

We have various story workshops for you to choose from and different delivery combinations to suit your needs. Here are a few examples:
